WESTER ROSS - APPLECROSS, TORRIDON,ATTADALE GARDENS,AND INVEREWE GARDENS

Wester Ross

This area has a landscape of incredible beauty and diversity fashioned by a fascinating geological history. Mountains of strang , spectacular shapes rise up from a coastline of diverse seascapes. Wave battered cliffs and crevices are tempered by sandy beaches ; fjords reach inland several miles. Softening this rugged landscape are large inland fresh water lakes. There are two National Scenic Area designations one is Wester Ross. There are three National Nature Reserves.

Hiking in Wester Ross

I hiked in the Torridon region. The peaks of Beinn Eighe and Torridon were in the background. Loch Maree was around my hike. Extensive oak woodlands grew on the north eastern shore.
The village of Kinlochewe is the gateway to the Torridon's.
Loch Maree with Beinn Eighe in the background.

Inverewe Garden Estate
(meaning mouth of the river) A lush tropical oasis perched on a peninsula at the eadge of Loch Ewe amid the rugged landscape. this world famous 54 acre historic garden is one of Scotlands's most popular botanical attractions. It is surrounded by of 2,000 acres of estate land. Osgood Mackenzie, in 1862 created out of bare rock and a few scrub wills a colorful and exotic plant diversity from around the world.

Beautiful gardens.....
wild flowers
Flowers from all over the world.
Beautiful area to sit and gaze at the Loch.
With a friend sitting in the garden......taken by a German tourist.

Shieldaig and Applecross Estate

After an incredibly twisted switchback drive on a single track road, we reach the Applecross Estate.
Our goal was to seek the 2013 best rated pub in the Scottish Highlands....it did not disappoint. Going back was a lot easier on a full stomach.
Our destination.
Is there a food truck her? Disguised as an Airstream?
Are we there yet?
Did we really drive up that road? No wonder the GPS on our car said it would take an hour to travel 10 miles.

Attadale Gardens
Strathcarron, Wester Ross

Started by Baron Schroder in the late 19th century, hill paths meander through 20 acres of conifers and rhododendrons. Totally transformed after the 1980 storms by owner Nicky Macpherson, it is now a painter's garden, designed to frame the magnificent views of Ske and the surroounding hills. Waterfalls, many bridges, meconopsis, bamboo and bright candelabra are reflected in dark pools. The sculpture is placed in unexpected nooks.

Welcome.....
