THE LIVINGSTON RIPLEY WATERFOWL CONSERVANCY

Over 60 species of ducks,geese and swans,along with cranes and other birds,can be found in aviaries and open ponds throughout the sixteen acre facility. Many rare and endangered species are propagated regularly and dispersed to fellow conservation and education facilities, ensuring sustainable captive populations for many species. 


KRIPALU

Named after Swami Kripalvananda in the 1970's, this 160,000 square foot facility, sitting on 350 acres, employing 626 people, and accommodating 650 guests was a former a Jesuit novitiate institution.

It is a non-profit whose mission statement:To empower people and communities to realize their full potential through the transformative wisdom and practice of yoga. 

MASS MoCA

This contemporary arts museum is housed in a 19th century factory campus on 12 acres in North Adams,MA. It is on the National Historic Register. Sprague Electric Company owned it from 1941-1985. It was a major R&D center. Mass MoCA purchased it in 1986. Many designs were submitted by several architectural firms, Frank Gehry,Skidmore Owens, and Bruner/Cott won the award.

It opened in 1999. There are 60 events a year, in 26 buildings.

There are many hiking trails in the Berkshires. This was one trail with a fabulous view.


BERKSHIRE BOTANICAL GARDEN

On 15 acres, with 3,000 species and founded in 1934, the Bekshire Botanical Garden is one of the oldest in the US. It was originated by the Lenox Garden Club and won national prestige in 1939 World's Fair when it introduced many species of native trees.  


THE NATIONAL SHRINE OF THE DIVINE MERCY



The Shrine is a spiritual refuge, offering many opportunites for prayer,devotion and spiritual renewal. Prior to becoming the home of the Marian Fathers in America, in 1855 , David Dudley Field,Jr. "Father" of the New York Penal Code, purchased Eden Hill and build a summer cottage there. In 1943 the Marians converted the mansion's Great Room into a chapel. The Divine Mercy Chapel was built to honor their special devotion to St. Faustina, an obscure Polish  nun who received apparitions from Jesus, Who called Himself "The Divine Mercy."Pope John Paul II in 1985 personally offered a special blessing for every pilgrim who would then and subsequently visit the Shrine. The life size figures of the stations of the cross - 52 figures, and 13 crosses - are the work of Timothy P. Schmalz of Ontario, Canada. These were completed in 2012.

Ventfort Hall is a magnificent Berkshire "Cottage" built  in 1893 by George and Sarah Morgan, sister of JP Morgan. Rescued from demolition, the elegant Jacobean-Revival mansion serves as a timeless example of the fine craftsmanship and elegant architecture  of the Gilded Age with its hand carved great hall,dramatic staircase, 90 foot grand veranda and it's expansive lawn. 

WILLIAMS COLLEGE
Thompson Memorial Chapel

Founded in 1793 as a men's college; admitted women in 1970. It is private libral arts college in Williamstown, MA. Forbes ranks it as the best undergraduate liberal arts college in 2014. The basic studies are humanities. It was founded from the estate of Ephraim Williams whose family made money as landowners. The campus occupies 450 acres and 100 academic buildings. Enrollment is 2,150 and the tuition is $64,000 total annual cost.
