The Polish People and their Peculiarities - But We Love It!!

As I walked around Poland - Krakow, Warsaw and Wroclow I took note of how happy the Polish people are. There is not a lot of evident self importance. The men are very kind to the women and children, and above all there is laughter. Families are together. People are actually enjoying conversations with each other. There is a lack of cell phones pressed to the ear, and there is no texting.

I really enjoyed taking photos of the people. I was amused by the fashion , or lack there of, and how happy the children were. The hair was very interesting.....is the mohawk making a comeback? It certainly is in Poland......

Nowa Huta - The Communist Era Re-Defined in Krakow

Leaving Krakow in your rear view mirror, you enter a brave new world laid out by Communist planners - wide straight avenues radiating from an open central square. At the end of the street a vast steel works complex around which Nowa Hutal was built.

The plant still produces half of Poland's steel - and little seems to have changed since the 1950's. Many buildings line the strees of Nowa Huta that were constructed during the Communist era.

T. Sendzimir Steelworks. Renamed after the Polish metal engineer, formerly called the Lenin Steelworks. The plant employs 10,000 locals.

The Cisterian Monastery of Mogila founded in the 13th century.

Across the road the wooden 15th century Church of St. Bartholomew.

Arka Pana Church - Astonishing construction. Over the course of 10 years with no financial help from the authorities, locals built their church by hand, bringing in two milllion stones bag by bag from the countryside. It was completed in 1977. The inside has a bronze statue of Christ, positioned as if about to fly over the congregation!!
